The Signal is GSU’s student newspaper. It publishes 30 editions in Fall & Spring, in addition to an Incept issue in the summer. The paper reports on campus news, sports, opinion and culture, as well as broader issues pertaining to the city of Atlanta. It launched its independent website georgiastatesignal.com in 2012. Where as the paper is weekly in fall and spring, the website is updated daily with news developments relevant to GSU. Over four years, the paper received 32 1st place placements in Georgia College Press Association’s (GCPA) “Better Newspapers” contest (Four-Year Division A category, including 1st Place in General Excellence for 2010, 2012 and 2013) The Signal also received nine Top 10 placements in three years of the Southeastern Journalism Conference’s “Best of the South” contest, including “Best College Newspaper” in the 2013 contest. It also received a Best in Show award at the 2012 national CMA/ACP convention. The Signal is affiliated with the Associated Collegiate Press, the Georgia College Press Association and the Southeast Journalism Conference. |
